The Grass Can Always be Greener with Rachio’s Smart Sprinkler Controller

Rachio was founded during Denver Startup Week 2012 with the goal of getting sprinklers in-sync with rainstorms. However, the company was hardly more than a concept beforehand. Chris Klein, CEO of Rachio, said, “Going into the weekend, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was in between ideas and was mostly looking to meet new people and work with any team that would have me. I ended up pitching a problem [sprinkler water efficiency] and a team formed around it. A year and a half later, our solution to the problem has become a real product in the market.”

Rachio’s Smart Sprinkler Controller replaces traditional sprinkler controllers with a simple installation and allows homeowners to control sprinkler systems using a mobile app. It uses information about the weather, plant and soil types, and sun exposure to ensure sprinkler systems are both sufficient and efficient. Rachio has integrated its sprinkler tech directly with several other smart home products, such as Nest, Amazon Echo, and Google Assistant.

Much like the grass they help maintain, Rachio has grown and flourished as a company. Their Smart Sprinkler Controller has been awarded Editor’s Choice by both PC Magazine and DigitalTrends, and for good reason. Rachio’s product has saved customers over 2.8 billion gallons of water on outdoor use. Because it saves so much water, many states offer customers a rebate for the product.

The Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network of Colorado is delighted to work with Rachio and looks forward to seeing what Chris and his team do to drive measurable growth and performance in 2017 and beyond.
